Persöfjord


The Persöfjord (Persöfjärden) is one more within the Swedish municipality of Luleå. In view of its name, it used to be a fjord on the Gulf of Bothnia, but by increasing the area around Luleå it has become a lake now. The Persöfjord has two edge lakes, Smedsbyfjord in the northwest and Rådmanviken in the north. The lake belongs to the Altersundet basin, where it is fed more by Brobyån and Lörbäcken. On the south-east side, the river flows into two branches north and south of Persön. Besides Persön lies Smedsbyn, Ängesbyn and Börjelslandet on the lake. The lake is an important feeding area for birds.
