Polonia Chernivtsi


Polonia Czerniowce (Romanian: Polonia Cernăuţi) was a Polish football club from Cernăuţi, a city belonging to Austria-Hungary, Romania and the Soviet Union in succession, currently in Ukraine. History

The club was founded in 1907 under the name of Sarmatia Czernowitz. In 1909 the club was dissolved and rebuilt in 1910. That same year, the club joined BASK Czernowitz. In 1912, Sport Club Dorost Sokoly Czernowitz separated from BASK. In 1914 the name Viktoria Czernowitz was adopted and in 1919 Polonia Czerniowce. In Romanian clubul Sportiv Polonia Cernăuţi was called. During this time the club took part in the championship of Boekovina.

In 1921/22, the club became regional champion and participated in the final round of the Romanian national championship. The club already lost in the first round. The next season also lost the club in the first round.

After some places in the middle club, the club became a regional champion in 1927/28, but this time the club was immediately eliminated. The following years went worse with the club and in 1933 the club demolished the second class of the Cernăuţi district. After one season, the club became champion in second class and graduated back. In 1935, the name Wawel Czerniowce was adopted and in 1938 the club downgraded to the second class. After 1940 the club disappeared. Famous players
