Wim van Eer (1974)

Willem Frederik (Wim) of Honor (Paramaribo, December 19, 1927 - July 2, 2011) was a Surinam politician and diplomat.

He was a teacher at the Evangelical Brotherhood before he came to the Netherlands where he studied pedagogy at the Nutsacademie in Rotterdam and after obtaining MO-a pedagogy and then MO-b pedagogy, Van Eer went to the University of Utrecht where he was in 1963 his graduate education pedagogy has been achieved. During his 8-year stay in the Netherlands he was active in several Surinamese organizations in the Netherlands. Thus he was co-founder of the Surinamese Society in Rotterdam, of which he also served as chairman.

Back in Suriname, he was a junior high school teacher in June 1963 and also a teacher at the nursery school. More than a year later, he became deputy director at the nursery school and at the beginning of 1965 he became the director. During that time he was a member of the party board of the National Party Suriname (NPS) and he also served as chairman of the NPS Education Commission. At the November 1973 State Elections, the National Party Combination, in which quite a few opposition parties, including the NPS, had received 22 out of 39 seats.

For the post of Plenipotentiary of Surinam in the Netherlands, first was O.E. Kemble, a teacher of geography in Amsterdam, candidate but when there were objections in Suriname, Van Eer started 1974 as such. With the independence of Suriname on November 25, 1975, that function expired and became the first ambassador of Surinam in the Netherlands.

After the coup under the direction of Desi Bouterse Van Van was relieved of his position on May 20, 1980 and called back to Paramaribo. He died there in mid-2011 at the age of 83.
