Argumentatietheorie

Argument theory or argument theory is the interdisciplinary study of how man makes conclusions based on logical reasoning.

It includes the domains of the art of social debate, dialogue and conviction. As argument theory, the theory of argument or new rhetoric is defined as a theory of argument studying discursive techniques, as well as the conditions under which good argumentation is possible.

Good argumentation is important in debates and negotiations, based on conclusions that are accepted by all parties. It is both an art and a science where achieving the "victory" of an opponent in a debate can also be a possible goal. Arguments are also used in the case law, for example in the preparation of a plea or to check the validity of an argument. In addition, argumentation can also be used in many other social situations. Types of argumentation

A distinction can be made between among others Pragma dialectics

Pragma dialectics, or the pragma dialectical theory, was developed by Frans van Eemeren and Rob Grootendorst at the University of Amsterdam. It is an argumentation theory used to analyze and evaluate argumentation in practice. Argumentation in texts

In a pragmatic sense, texts are distinguished according to the purpose for which they serve: recreational, informative and persuasive texts. Argumentation does not play an equal role in every text type: "Referring to the research of ..." "Why did not you wear a coat?" "The newspaper said it would be nice."

These include strong and weak, good, pervasive and false arguments. In a debate, the parties will try to convince each other with arguments and counteract the arguments of others with counter-arguments.
