Arnold Sauwen


Arnold (Hubert) Sauwen (Stokkem, March 22, 1857 - Brasschaat, May 11, 1938) was a Belgian poet, often counted as the Eighties.

Arnold Sauwen was born in Stokkem on March 22, 1857, as son of Leonard Sauwen and Maria Kempeneers. In 1876 he obtained the diploma of teacher at the Normaalschool in Lier. He acted as a teacher at Esschene, Rekem and Antwerp. In the Scheldt city, his poetry talent could be fully exploited, including by his friendship with Victor Alexis de la Montagne, co-founder of the magazine Van Nu and Immediately. Artwork
