Beekpiraat


The brook pirate (Piratula knorri) is a spider in the taxonomic classification of the wolf spiders (Lycosidae).

The animal belongs to the genus Piratula. The scientific name of the species was first published for the first time in 1763 by Giovanni Antonio Scopoli.

The brook pirate occurs in a large part of Western and Central Europe, ranging from France, the Netherlands and Belgium to the west to Georgia and Eastern Europe to the east. Males grow 6 to 9 mm long, females 5.8 to 6.3 mm.

Beek pirates are only hiding on shady gravel beaches that are located near fast-flowing streams.
