Downtown Train

Downtown Train is a song included in the 1985 Tom Waits Rain Dogs album.

Rod Stewart made a reinterpretation of the track, which entered the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 after being released as a single in 1989. Exceptional guitarist in the Stewart version was Jeff Beck. Bob Seger recorded a release in 1989 but chose not to publish it because the version of Stewart was previously released. He later changed his mind by publishing the version of the song in the retrospective album Ultimate Hits: Rock and Roll Never Forgets and as a single on February 28, 2011. Other artists have published Waits' cover songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, his 1987 debut album, Hometown Girl, and Patty Smyth, who released the same release in the same year as Billboard Hot 100. The English duet Everything but the Girl produced an acoustic version of the song.
