Gregorio Martínez


Gregorio Melitón Martínez Santa Cruz (Prado Luengo, March 10, 1815 - Manila, 1881) was a Spanish Roman Catholic clergyman. Martínez was the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila from 1861 to 1875.

Martínez followed his priesthood training at the San Jeronimo seminar. There he was appointed priest in June 1840, after which he continued his studies in Valladolid and Madrid. Twenty-three years later, on December 23, 1861, he was appointed by the Spanish king to the new Archbishop of Manila. The dedication to the Archbishop followed March 23, 1862. Martyrs retired and thirteen years later, on September 30, 1875, was succeeded by Pedro Payo and Piñeiro. Six years later he died ..
