Markarians Necklace is a small group of galaxies in the Virgo cluster. The name chain is derived from the fact that the galaxies (seen from Earth) appear to be on a light-curved line. The group was named after the Armenian astrophysicist Benjamin Markarian, who discovered the systems in the early 1960s of the 20th century.
Starsystems that are part of the group are Messier 84 (NGC 4374), NGC 4435, NGC 4438, NGC 4443, NGC 4458, NGC 4473 and NGC 4477. In addition, NGC 4435 and NGC 4438 include two interacting galaxies that contain about 100,000 light years apart.
