Real Betis Balompié, better known as Real Betis, is a Spanish football club from the city of Seville, outstanding in the Primera División. The club plays his home games at the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The city center against Sevilla FC is one of Spain's most loaded duels.
HistoryReal Betis was founded in 1907 by apostate members of Sevilla FC. The name was derived from the Roman name for the river Guadalquivir flowing through Seville. Real Betis made his debut in the Primera División in the season 1932-1933. Real Betis won a big prize three times in history: the Spanish national title in 1935 and the Copa del Rey in 1977 and 2005. In 2005, Real Betis took part in the UEFA Champions League as the first Andalusian club, although city fellow Sevilla FC in the fifties had already played in the tournament for the Europacup I. In 2009 Real Betis declined to the Segunda División A. At the beginning of September 2010, there were such problems that the club applied for bankruptcy. In 2011, the club could re-promote to the Primera División. After seventh place in 2012/13, the club re-entered Europe and reached the quarterfinal, which lost the loss of arch rivals Sevilla FC.
