Avid Technology is an American company that is the market leader in digital non-linear video and audio mounting systems. Numerous movies are mounted on an Avid system and it has replaced the old-fashioned way of physical film assembly.
Avid brought the first successful system to the market that made the combination between fast video recording and non-linear movie assembly. The system initially turned on Apple computers, but from 1999 it is also available for computers running the Microsoft, Windows operating system.
There are several products, including Avid Media Composer, Avid Xpress and Avid Adrenaline.
Avid's headquarters is in Tewksbury (Massachusetts). Avid has existed since 1987 and went to the NASDAQ stock exchange in 1993. Since then, the company has acquired a number of other companies, including Digidesign (Pro Tools maker).
