Edisons 1966

In 1966, Edisons were not awarded in the category of light music. This was the result of fuss that arose in May 1966 when The Telegraaf had already announced a list of winners early. This involved Martine Bijl, Golden Earrings, Beach Boys, Annie M.G. Schmidt and Miles Davis.

In addition, there was criticism of the jury members, expressed by co-juror Leo Nelissen. He doubted the integrity of his colleagues after she had awarded Edison to Martine Bijl, who had made her debut in the Willem Duys TV show that year. According to Nelissen, she had got the Edison after the jury members had personally joined Duys to listen to the record.

The Edison organization does not recognize the list of winners of 1966. The Edisons are, as far as known, never issued.

That year, a Grand Gala du Disque was held, with Tony Bennett being the main guest. In the classical music category, Edisons were awarded.
