The distic is a verse formed by a couple of verses.
The word comes from Greek δίστιχον, dístichon, literally "twice" (δίς) and "schιera, row" (στίχον).
In the classic metric the most common form is that of the elegiac dial, consisting of a dotting hexameter followed by a dotted pentameter.
A distinctive form of classical distiche is the echoic distic, in which the final pitch of the pentameter equals the initial diameter of the hexameter.
In Italian versification, the term distico does not necessarily indicate a stroke structure. It is usually composed of two verses of equal size, usually kissed.
