Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla (Toledo, October 4, 1607 - Madrid, January 23, 1648) was a Spanish playwright.
At three years he moved to Madrid, but studied in Toledo and Salamanca. In 1644 he was appointed knight in Santiago de Compostela. Just in the forties, Rojas Zorrilla wrote most of his works.
Friend and disciple of Pedro Calderón de la Barca, innovated baroque theater by inserting into his comedy of ridiculous characters. The language he used was also very easy, adapting to the tastes of the seventeenth-century audience. He wrote a large number of works, but the most important are Del rey abajo ninguno, Entre bobos anda el juego and Lo que son las mujeres. He also wrote some sacramental autos, including El grande patio de palacio. Links externalize the wikitesto
