John II of Malatesta

John II Malatesta, Count of Sogliano (... - 1299), followed the Ghibelline fortunes and always opposed Malatesta da Verrucchio, contrasting the dominion of Rimini. Coat of arms of Malatesta

He was a runner in gold, and in 1276 he was a PodestĂ  of Rimini. He signed peace between the cities of Romagna.

In 1287 he made peace with Malatesta da Verrucchio and with other gentlemen, but peace was not accepted by Pietro Stefaneschi, Rector of Romagna, who, having warned to imprisoned Malatesta, could not have in his hands that John, conducted in Cesena.

Released in 1288, he had to follow Malatesta in exile.

When peace was completed, in 1290, Giovanni returned home with proud intentions against his own relatives, but died in 1299 without further action. Bibliografiamodifica wikitesto
