Macho is Spanish for "male" (ie male / male of the male sex), but refers in Dutch to a man who exaggerates himself manly and expresses his courage, physical masculinity, taste for women and aggression .
Macho behavior is also referred to as machismo, a noun of Spanish origin. What is understood in Dutch by macho is called machista in Spanish.
According to the cliché, macho's are proponents of the traditional role distribution between men and women. They would negate themselves to women's rights to work, to participate in sports, or to pursue other traditional male roles in society. In spite of their underlying beliefs, macho's are at least due to their ruling behavior.
Rational and emphatic male behavior, exposure of physical masculinity and (sexual) aggression are related to the level of male hormone testosterone. Also see Sources
