Newfoundland Standard Time

NST is UTC−3:30

The Newfoundland Standard Time Zone (NST) is used in a region where time is determined by subtracting 3½ hours of UTC or UTC-3:30. During the summer time by 2½ hours difference from UTC. The time in this zone is based on the average sunshine time on the 52th and 30th centuries west of the Greenwich Observatory.

NST is used only in Canada, and only specifically in Newfoundland and Labrador County. Officially according to Canadian law, the entire province should use the Newfoundland Time Zone, but in practice it is only used on the great island of Newfoundland, the nearby islands and the South Black Tickle places in the southeastern part of Labrador. The rest of Labrador, north and west of Cartwright, uses Atlantic Standard Time Zone (AST).

This unique time zone exists because of the separate location of the island and because it was a separate dominion when the time zones were established in the past.
