Child allowance

Child allowance was a compensation for children in the Netherlands.

Child allowance was introduced on January 1, 2008 and was paid by Tax Administration / Scholarships. Child allowance changed the children's discount. Child discount was a discount that parents could get on paying income tax. Low-income people pay little tax and, as you can never get tax back then you paid, did not have a discount on that amount. Therefore, the child discount was replaced by a child allowance, which came above the income. Child allowance received parents after child support.

The amount of child allowance was dependent on family income: the lower the income, the more child benefit one receives. For the supplement, the number of children did not break out, and one child allowance was paid for each family with children. The child allowance amounted to a maximum of 82 euros per month in 2008. The maximum gross family income for 2008 was € 46,700 per year.

Right to child allowance existed when:

With effect from 1 January 2009, child allowance will be replaced by child-related budget.
