It is a cleavage of the nervous axillaris and innerves the cutaneous area of the musculus deltoides (the skin that belongs to the muscular deltoides, an area on the upper arm). The cutaneus brachii lateralis superior nerve extends dorsally from the proximal humerus, through the muscles deltoides. A damage to the proximal humerus can lead to failure of the sensory nerve and restrict the abduction of the arm through the muscular deltoids.
