Edward "Duke" Groner (Ardmore, March 24, 1908 - Chicago, November 7, 1992) was an American jazz singer and bassist.
After his studies at Wiley College, he became a member of Nat Towles' band, where he worked for several years. With a few members from his band, he played with Horace Anderson in Apollo Theater and the Savoy Ballroom. After this group was eliminated, he became the home singer of Minton's Playhouse, in addition to Betty Roche, where he worked with Kenny Clarke and Thelonious Monk. After that he worked shortly in Jimmie Lunceford's band, then returning to Chicago where he sang in Henderson's new band. The group ran out of service during the war, and Groner then sought his salvation with other musicians, including Buster Bennett and Wild Bill Davison. In those years he also played double bass and at the end of the 1940s he had a trio with Horace Palm and Emmett Spicer, which he recorded for Aristocrat, later eaten by Chess Records. In the fifties he played with Kirk Stuart. Externe link
