GPTV


GPTV was a commercial television station originally located in Harlingen (city) and later in Leeuwarden (city). The abbreviation stands for Gerstel Productions Television. The first broadcast was in 1996. GPTV was a family business. Reception area

The transmitter was originally received in the municipalities of Harlingen, Franekeradeel and the Bildt. Later there were also the municipalities of Wonseradeel, Bolsward, Nijefurd, Gaasterland-Sloten, Wymbritseradeel, Lemsterland, Skarsterlân, Heerenveen, Sneek, Boornsterhem, Littenserael, Menaldumadeel, Leeuwarden, Leeuwarderadeel, Ferwerderadeel, Tietjerksteradeel, Smallingerland and Achtkarspelen.

In May 2009, three municipalities were added to this area: Ooststellingwerf, Weststellingwerf and Opsterland, bringing the transmitter to a total of 212,000 cable connections. Since May 2010, GPTV was also digitally received via UPC, which joined Ziggo sister company in early 2015.

GPTV stopped broadcasting at the end of April 2017. For the company, making programs was no longer profitable.
