Michael Ray Charles (Lafayette (Louisiana), 1967) is an African-American artist.
Since the late 1980's, he worked as a professor at the University of Houston. He taught in drawing and painting. Since 1992 he is also an instructor in the "Museum of Fine Arts", which is also located in Houston. Here he came into contact with the sculpture.
Michael Ray Charles is very busy with the experiences of American blacks. Examples of these topics are slavery, racism and exploitation. He processes these traditions and stereotypes in his works, making a lot of use of caricatures.
