Santa Maria (Campi Bisenzio)

Santa Maria is one of the five parishes where traditionally has always been subdivided into the communal capital.

It is located in the western part of the municipal area, beyond the right bank of the Bisenzio and now forms only one urban agglomeration with the nearby former boroughs of San Martino and San Lorenzo. The territory of its parish also includes the hamlet of La Villa and extends up to the municipal boundary with Prato.

The then village of Santa Maria a Campi saw the first important industrial activities implanted in the Campigian territory, namely the tanneries, planted towards the end of the 19th century. Also in its territory is Villa dell'Olmo, of 15th century origin but restructured in the nineteenth century and nowadays is in a state of conservation.
