The urlant was translated into English and distributed in North America and Commonwealth countries under the name of Heavy Metal becoming world-renowned. Some years after the magazine in English was separated from the original creative group by creating its own editorial line. Today, the English magazine is far from the spirit of the French counterpart.

In 1988, the publishing house and all of its publications were bought by the Swiss producer and publisher Fabrice Giger who was 23 years old who changed her into a company for the development of intellectual property. Since then, in less than two decades, the company has developed one of the most respected series of world publications with the help of authors such as Moebius, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Enki Bilal, Milo Manara and Juan Gimenez and various genres.

In 2004, filmmaker Pierre Spengler became one of the company's owners, with the intention of playing an important role in transposing large-screen publishing.
