At the end of elementary school, pupils and their parents in the Netherlands receive a school advice for making a responsible choice for a school in secondary education.

In this, management and teachers express their expectations regarding the successful completion of education at a secondary school. This happens on the basis of usually years of experience with the child concerned and is therefore not comparable to the one-time Citotoet. In addition to the child's intellectual abilities, the advice includes other issues as concentration, independence, commitment and motivation. This also differs from the outcome of the Cito Final Test.

In most cases, most schools do not agree with the results of this test. The few schools that do this, go against the goals set by the Citro Group for the test. The test is not meant to give children a (sometimes binding) school advice. Usually, a Cito score can only affect the advice positively, and confirms the judgment that the school already has about the child. Also see
