Bab Jedid

The Bab Jedid in 2008.

The Bab Jedid (Arabic: باب الجديد; also spelled as Bab Djedid or Bab Jidid) is a city gate on the edge of Tunisian capital Tunis. The name of the gate is literally translated as the New Gate and is probably under the rule of Hafsid sultan Yahya Hafsid built around 1278.

The street leads to a market square where smiths are mostly at work. The building is therefore commonly referred to as the Gate to the smiths. In the same street is the headquarters of the Tunisian football club Club Africain.
