Great Light


Groot Licht was a playful educational, popular science television program that was first seen on TV from 1998 to 2002, in co-production of the Flemish VRT youth channel Ketnet and the Dutch broadcaster KRO. It was presented by the Flemish Johan Terryn and the Dutch Yvon Jaspers. Formula

Together they shared scientific elements and underwent several experiments. Their experiments were arranged interchangeably with sections such as On Street, where both Johan and Yvon questioned young people on the street about the subject of the scientific broadcast. In addition, there was the humorous rubriek Goed-Fout, where two actors clumsy all kinds of tests were exaggerated well or badly, accompanied by an ironic narrative and music. Rating

Big Light won prizes at home and abroad, both of child jury and professional jury's: The Small and Big Children's Box, The Golden Zapper, the Flemish Community Award for the Best Youth Program, the North-South Trophy for best co-production and the Prix Jeunesse 2000.

Big Light was repeated in the years afterwards, both in the youth program block Zappelin and on Ketnet, especially in the holiday periods.

The format was also made for the German channel ZDF, entitled Genau. The presentation was again by Johan Terryn and Lottie Hellingman.
