Kwan Im Thong Hood Chotempel

Kwan Im Thong Hood Chotempel is a Chinese Buddhist temple on the Waterloo Road Numero 178 in Singapore. The temple is dedicated to Sakyamuni Buddha and Bodhisattva Guanyin. In the temple one can do qiuqian. History

The temple was founded in 1884 by Nanshanshangren (南山 上人). In 1893 the temple was renovated. The original temple had three altars. The main altar in the middle was from Guanyin. The side painters were Bodhidharma and Hua Tuo. An image of Sakyamuni was found in a separate room.

In 1982, the temple was rebuilt in order to receive the greater number of believers. All gods and saints stand on one altar. The image of Sakyamuni Buddha stands on an elevated altarpiece in the middle. Guanyin is next to him. Candles and incense sticks are not burned inside the temple, but outside in an incense pot at the temple entrance, this prevents smoke damage to the ceiling.
