The League of Human Rights is a Dutch organization that enjoys human rights. The organization is mainly known by the annual issue of the Clara Meijer-Wichmann Penning to a person or institution committed to human rights. History
The League of Human Rights already existed as an association in informal form in the 1970s. On April 14, 1982, it was officially founded by Pieter Glebbeek, Jacob Hubert Smeets and Ernst Stern. The League has its headquarters in Amsterdam. Activities
Since 1988, the Clara Meijer-Wichmann Penning has been awarded on December 10, Human Rights Day. This will take place from 2003 in cooperation with the J'accuse foundation.
The League acts as an intermediary to seek legal advisers for persons whose rights are at stake. Special attention is paid to asylum seekers. Liga lectures are also organized: the Thomas Paine Lectures, the annual Jan van Opbergen Lecture, and the annual Clara Meijer-Wichmann lecture. Furthermore, she issues a periodic term called TERECHT.
