Materialistic literature study

Materialistic literature study is an opinion on literary science which assumes that the material aspects of literature production, books largely determine the content and value of literature. Scientists who adhere to this view will of course be concerned with the material aspects of literature production. Thus, the materialistic literature study links between text itself (form, style, function, meaning) and the conditions under which a book is established and the market conditions of distribution (printer, publisher, financial resources, library system). This will result in the work being received by readers (circulation figures, readers' data). And eventually, according to this view, an ideological meaning will be produced.

This perception of literature fits into a broader context of materialistic philosophy that often belongs to the Marxist and Neomarxist (Frankfurter Schule Theodor Adorno) mindset.
