Theodorus Weevers

Theodorus Weevers (1875-1952) was a Dutch botanist who played an important role in the nature conservation movement.

Weevers was a professor of plant physiology from 1921 to 1924 at the University of Groningen and later as a regular professor of Amsterdam. He was chairman of the Dutch Botanical Association for some time.

Weevers has become known as one of the founders of the Contact Committee for Nature and Landscape Protection in 1932 and as chairman of the Natural Science Commission of the Nature Conservation Council. In the debate about nature conservation management around 1940, he expressed himself against human intervention and opposed the biologist nature conservationist Victor Westhoff and Pieter van Tienhoven, president of Nature Monuments.
