Besso

The Besso is a 3667m high mountain in the Valais Alps in Switzerland. The name Besso means "twin" in the dialect of the Val d'Hérens and refers to the twin peaks of the mountain. The mountain was probably climbed for the first time in 1862 by the guides J.B. Epinay and J. Vianin. The classic route on the mountain - southwest side (PD +) - has been climbed for the first time by R.L.G. Irving in 1906. The Grand Mountet cabin (2886 m) is used for the normal route, known as the Ladies' Route (Women's Route). 46° 5′ NB, 7° 40′ OL
