Brewery The Bijenkorf or Brewery Cruyl is a former beer brewery in Belgium Assenede. It was in the Leegstraat, there is now a settlement with the appropriate name of Bijenkorf.
The company was founded in 1769 and closed in 1961 and was owned by the Cruyl family. One sold the beer with the name Brueghel and Brueghel-Tyl-Beers, the image of a beehive was always present.
A count of the Angelus Cruyl family (1868-1930) was Mayor of Assenede from 1908 to 1930. He was married to Alice Loontjens (1872-1950) and their son Alfred Cruyl (1893-1960) also became Mayor of Assenede in 1937. Closed
Both company and family villa have disappeared in Assenede. Nevertheless, not from the collective memory of the inhabitants of this village, as many popular celebrations took place in the courts.
In the Assenede church, behind the main altar is a glass window donated by the Cruyl family in 1932, with the central theme of the crucifixion of Christ. It was destroyed during World War II and restored in 1948. Angelus Cruyl as shepherd and grandchildren as angels, the company symbol, the beehive is also present. Also see Externe link
