Cuauhxicalli jaguared in the National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico
A cuauhxicalli, or quauhxicalli (pronounced kʷaːwʃikalli in nahuatl language) was a stone vase similar to an altar used by the Aztecs to contain the human hearts extracted during sacrificial ceremonies. A cuahykalli was often decorated with animal motifs, usually eagles or jaguars. Another type of cuauhxicalli is the Chac Mool, with the shape of a relaxed person holding a bowl on the belly.
