Guru Hargobind

Illustration made at the end of the 18th century, representing guru Hargobind

Goeroe Hargobind (Gurmukhi: Sri Guru Hargobind, Devanagari: Sree Guru Hargobind ji) (Wadāli, India, 19 juni 1595 - Kīratpur, Nabij het Himalayagebergte, 3 maart 1644) was deployed as well. Hargobind was working on 25 mei 1606 and traded in the Voicesporen vanja vader Goeroe Arjan.

Hargobind developed a strong Sikh army and gave Sikhism its traditional military character. These developments were initiated by Arjan, the first Sikhist martyr, and expanded greatly under the guidance of Hargobind.

In 1609 he built in Amritsar the Akāl Takht ("Throne of God"), a temple where both the spiritual issues and the issues of the cyclization could be discussed. He built a fort near Amritsar and called it Lohgarh.

The increasing military power show of the Sikhs saw the Mogols as a threat. Emperor Jahāngīr captured Hargobind for 12 years, but the dedication of the Sikhs only intensified, an undesirable result for the emperor. In the end, the guru was released and the militant build-up of the Sikhs continued.

Before the guru died, he named Goeroe Har Rai, his grandson, to the next guru of the Sikhs.
