Ornamental art from Melanesia

Ornamental art from Melanesia was a small exhibition of Melanesian objects from the Ghent University Ethnographic Collections at the Museum of Decorative Art in Ghent. The exhibition was on the floor from March 12 to April 18, 1993 and showed twenty-three rare or special ornamental objects (and decorated objects) from the western part of the Pacific, including breast, neck and armorads, but also some ghost masks, lime pads, a neckstitch (as a sleep support) and a decorative comb. Most of the objects shown were purchased by Ghent professor C. de Bruyne in 1905 at the Berlin National Museum.

In the exhibition catalog catalog all items are displayed and discussed extensively. Catalog Also see
