De Bult (Deurne)

The Bult is a 120 hectare nature reserve in the far northeast of the town of Deurne on the borders of the provinces of Brabant and Limburg.

The area is owned by Staatsbosbeheer and forms a separate part of the Deurnese Peel remains, which remained after mining, and thus shares the status of Natura 2000 area. The area consists of high-grade remains, birch forest, dry and humid heath. Here and there, part of the original vegetation is restored by improved water management, and one can find Veenmossen, cattle plow and sundew. Important animals in the area are Das and Smooth Snake.

The area is part of a management unit, which also includes Deurnsche Peel and Mariapeel, but it is a seventy kilometer away, although on the Limburg side of the provincial border there is a narrow nature corridor along the Peel or Defense Channel between the areas mentioned exists.

Directly north of the area lies the fully channeled Kaweise Loop.

The reserve is completely enclosed by agricultural area, but one kilometer north is the Flying Base De Peel, which still contains important natural values (including heathlands), and two kilometers northwards, Stippelberg estate also has some heath. Over half a mile to the southeast is the Peelrestant de Heidsche Peel. 51° 29′ 47″ NB, 5° 50′ 50″ OL
