Frans Sigmans


Frans Sigmans (Bakel, June 19, 1947 - Bakel, March 3, 2005) was a Dutch motorcrosser.

French Sigmans, as he was called especially in his early years, started in the match race in 1963 and ended in 1988 in 25 years. In this period he achieved a total of 5 Dutch titles. His first title was awarded in the 50cc junior class in 1964. In the 250cc class he became Dutch champion twice (1967 and 1968) and once in the 500cc class (1975). At the 500cc world championships he became 13th, 1974 12th, 1975 12th and 1976th 13th in 1973.

He gained his greatest reputation by winning twice the Motocross of Aces in 1967 and 1968. He attracted much sympathy through his sophisticated technical and sporty driving style at public and fellow drivers. His 25-year cross-career ended in 1988 by achieving the championship in the four-stroke class at the age of 41. After that he focused on his bicycle dealer in Bakel.

He died at the age of 57 due to a cardiac arrest.
