The Gerarda Gockingagasthuis in the Grote Rozenstraat
The Gerarda Gockingagasthuis is a guesthouse in the city of Groningen. It is located on the Grote Rozenstraat in the Hortus neighborhood.
The guesthouse was founded in 1870 by Jr. Wolther Gockinga in memory of his wife, Gerarda Wolthers. In 1882 and 1891 it was expanded. It was intended for women who had worked as a maid and remained unmarried or became widows.
The houses were purchased at the beginning of the 1970s by the university that wanted to expand extensively in the Hortus neighborhood. After adapting these plans, the guesthouse could be retained. The cottages are now inhabited by individuals.
