Norman Dello Joio


Norman Dello Joio (New York, 24 January 1913 - New York, July 24, 2008) was a US composer and a pianist of Italian origin.

He studied music with his father-in-law, Pietro Yon (organ), and composition with Hindemith.

He won twice the Guggenhelm scholarship.

As a composer, he has performed various works, such as Prairie Ballets (1942), Duke at Sacramento (1942), On Staoe! (1945), Wildernes Stair (1948), Concertino for piano and orchestra, chamber music, piano and corals. In 1946 Fritz Reiner conducted the first ever performance in the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh of "Concert Music" of his composition.
