The Maastricht Students Korfbal Association The Hippos is a student basketball club based in Maastricht. The members are students at Maastricht University and Hogeschool Zuyd. Old members of the association are called VhIPpo's. The association aims to stimulate student basketball in Maastricht. History
The association originated from KV Maastricht korfbal association. Students who joined this association decided in 1990 to continue under the name M.S.K.V. The Hippos. The name is derived from the hippopotamus amphibius, an animal that looks sweet but is dangerous to those who come too close. The association is affiliated with the Royal Dutch Basketball Association (KNKV), where the Student Basketball Commission (SKC) is responsible for the student basketball club's interests.
