Cornelis Kan


Cornelis Kan (December 8, 1892 - Amersfoort, December 10, 1979) was a Dutch teacher, sports director, sports organizer and sports pioneer. He is mainly famous for his role in the gym world and because of different locations in the Frisian town of Sneek who bear his name. biography

Cornelis Could be employed in 1926 as a gym teacher at the public primary schools and the ULO in Sneek. May form the basis of the creation of various sports associations, including TGP (Thusnelda-Greate Pier, nowadays ATC Sneek), Vlug and Lenig, Rythm Stars Sneek and the Sneker handball club. He was also involved in various committees in volleyball and within the KNGU. His son was the rector of the ALO in Groningen.

On January 1, 1958, Kan went to retirement. He passed away in 1979 at the age of 87 in Amersfoort. Awards

Can be distinguished several times because of its contribution to sports. He received from the Mayor Rasterhoff the honorary medal in gold in the Order of Orange Nassau. His name was given in 1973 to the former C. Kan hal. After the demolition of this hall, in 2006 the C. Kanstraat was named after him. In the entrance hall of Sportcentrum Schuttersveld a memorial panel hangs on Kan.
