Oves et boves

The Latin word oves et boves, translated literally, means sheep and oxen. (John 2: 14; Ps 8: 8)

The evangelist recounts that Jesus found the merchants of sheep, oxen, doves, and money changers sitting in the Temple of Jerusalem: et invenit in templo vendentes oves et boves et columbas et nummularios sedentes. It will be this vision to unleash the anger of Jesus against those merchants who will pull out of the temple by waving them.

This expression usually means a heterogeneous grouping, united without a precise logic.

According to another version, the locus comes from a notarial formula to indicate the mass cessation of all the cattle of a farm with the expression et oves et boves et universe sheep where with pecus means the cattle minute. Voices correlateemodify wikitesto
