Thomas Demenga (Bern, 1954) is a Swiss cellist and composer.
Demenga studied at Walter Grimmer, Antonio Janigro, Leonard Rose and Mstislav Rostropovich and also at Juilliard School of Music in New York City. His specialty is chamber music and solosrecitals. In addition, Demenga teaches at the Basel School of Music and from 2001 to 2006 led a music festival for young musicians in Davos. In 2003 Demenga was a home artist at a music festival in Lucerne. Demenga plays in addition to the standard repertoire for cello, including Bach's six suites, Demenga also plays repertoire of classical music of the 20th century, such as Holliger, Carter, Veress, Zimmermann, Yun und Hosokawa. Because of this, composers have also written special works for him, of which Demenga took care of the premiere. Most of Demenga's recordings have been issued by ECM Records.
