Gentry (social class)

The landed gentry English was a social class that was defined as a small country nobility and inherited. It was made up of large and small landowners and small hereditary gentlemen.

The county gentry, or gentry major, and the gentry parochial, or gentry minor, were distinguished as the former possessed more power than the latter. This social class held more or less important positions in the counties (eg sheriff, judge of peace, etc.).

In England, Gentry's members had the role of unpaid and independent peace judges who governed various areas of justice, road maintenance, guild oversight and pricing control. Voices correlateemodify wikitesto Other designers wikitesto
