The Gulbergen is a former garbage dump on the border of Nuenen and Geldrop-Mierlo. The land is owned by the Eindhoven Partnership Association and in leasehold issued to Beheermaatschappij Gulbergen BV (100% Attero). The area is located between the A270 in the north and the Eindhovens Canal in the south. The Hooidonkse Beek intersects the area, as well as the Eindhoven-Helmond railway line. It is also the highest point in North Brabant with a height of 60 meters above NAP meter. History
Originally, this site was the domain of the Dirt Output Society (VAM). By rail, manure and landfills were brought from the west of the country to be composted, after which it could be used to exploit desolate soils.
In 1979, the Regional Waste Processing Company Southeast Brabant (RAZOB) was established with the aim of responsible and controlled dumping of garbage at Gulbergen landfill and the development of Gulbergen Estate. The area of the 'estate' is approximately 400 hectares in 2009. The landfill of the RAZOB replaced a large number of smaller landfills located in the region. The smaller landfills were closed. The increasing attention paid to waste separation and reuse eventually resulted in less and less waste being used on this large regional landfill.
Since 1990, part of the area is being used by Golfclub de Gulbergen. Also the Animal Kingdom and an event center are located on Gulbergen Estate.
There is also a mountain bike trail through and over the site. This includes the climb of what is called the roof of Brabant. The top of the shower is 60 meters above NAP (40 meters above ground level) and offers a surprising view of the Eindhoven skyline, while on clear weather, even the rocky mountains of the Kempens coal pits can be discovered.
A land bank is located at the dump where various classes of land are stored for use in construction and infrastructure projects. Also important is Carbiogas, a company that collects and purifies the landfill of the landfills. Externe link 51° 27′ 17″ NB, 5° 34′ 33″ OL
