The Principality of Anhalt-Harzgerode was a member of the Holy Roman Empire. It was created in 1635 following the division of the Anhalt-Bernburg with Frederick, one of the minor children of Christian I of Anhalt-Bernburg as the first prince. The death of Prince Frederick's son, William in 1709 led to the extinction of the ruling family and the Anhalt-Harzgerode was reunited with the Anhalt-Bernburg.
