SMLT

Split Multi-Link Trunking (SMLT) is a network aggregation and networking technology designed by Avaya in 2001 as a Multi-Link Trunking (MLT) standard, as defined in IEEE 802.3ad.

An aggregation or multi-link trunking (MLT) or EtherChannel standard limitation is that all physical ports and group aggregation links must reside on the same switch. The SMLT, DSMLT, and RSMLT protocols remove this constraint, allowing physics to be split between two options to allow the creation of Active High Availability network sharing drawings that meet the "Five Nines" availability requirements.
