La Niña de los Peines was the artist name of Pastora María Pavón Cruz (Seville, February 1890 - 26 November 1969). She was a cantaora flamenca (flamenco singer) and is considered to be one of the most important voices in the history of this art form. biography

Pastora María Pavón Cruz was a son of gitanos (gypsies) with a great singing tradition; Her father was Francisco Pavón Cruz, known as "El Paiti", a resident of Viso del Alcor (province of Seville), her mother was Pastora Cruz resident of Arahal, her two brothers Tomás Pavón and Arturo Pavón, were also cantaurs (flamenco singers). She was married to the cantor Pepe Pinto.

According to poet / writer Lorca had her voice a timbre of pure metal: somewhat nasty, but very speaking, and with an extraordinary sense of rhythm. Picasso called her "an abundance of life": she loved life and partying. Many may therefore consider the best cantaora festera ever.
