Hal Crook (July 28, 1950) is a jazz trombonist. He is a teacher and writer in improvised music.
Crook started playing on his twelfth trombone. He studied at Berklee College of Music, where he later became a teacher. He has been a professional musician since 1963. He played with, among others, Zoot Sims, Clark Terry, Snooky Young, Roy Eldridge, Thad Jones, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Bruce Fowler, Bob Brookmeyer and Cyrus Chestnut. He records as a leader, but also as a sideman of Phil Woods, Jerry Bergonzi, Mick Goodrick, Dan Moretti, and Clark Terry. The Woods (Celebration) record was nominated for a Grammy in 1998. Crook's current band is called 'Um'. He also wrote several books on jazz improvisation. Discography (selection) Externe link
